How does this medication work?
Abiraterone, Yonsa/Zytiga irreversibly inhibits CYP17 which is required for androgen biosynthesis which in turn leads to no dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and androstenedione.
How should I take this medication?
Oral (Yonsa): 500mg once daily
Oral (Zytiga): 1000mg once daily
How to Take: Must be taken on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before and 2 hours after any food). However, micronized Abiraterone (Yonsa) can be taken with or without food.
What should I watch for while using this medication?
Before starting Abiraterone, Yonsa/Zytiga make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take. You should be aware that Abiraterone, Yonsa/Zytiga can cause adrenocortical insufficiency, hepatotoxicity, mineralocorticoid excess and QT prolongation. Monitored testing is clinically indicated before and during treatment.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
How should I store this medication?
Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at room temperature, 59 to 86° F (15 to 30° C). Protect from light. Keep the container tightly closed. Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.
What are the possible side effects of using this medication?
Hypertension, edema, fatigue, insomnia, hypertriglyceridemia, hyperglycemia, hypernatremia, hypokalemia, hypophosphatemia, hot flashes, constipation, diarrhea, dyspepsia, lymphocytopenia, elevated liver enzymes, joint swelling and pain, muscle pain, upper respiratory tract infection, dyspnea, nasopharyngitis,
