How does this medication work?
Viskazide is made of a combination of pindolol and hydrochlorothiazide to treat high blood pressure. Pindolol blocks beta receptors and exhibits mild intrinsic sympathomimetic activity; has negative inotropic and chronotropic effects and can significantly slow AV nodal conduction. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that inhibits sodium reabsorption in the distal tubules causing increased excretion of sodium and water as well as potassium and hydrogen ions.
How should I take this medication?
Usual (Oral): Initial one tablet (pindolol10mg/hydrochlorothiazide25mg) daily. Maximum daily dose of pindolol 20mg/hydrochlorothiazide 100mg.
How to Use: May be administered with food or milk. Take early in the day to avoid nocturia.
What should I watch for while using this medication?
Before starting Pindolol+Hydrochlorothiazide, Viskazide make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, if you have bronchospastic disease, cardiovascular disease, conduction abnormalities, diabetes, hepatic impairment, myasthenia gravis, peripheral vascular disease, pheochromocytoma, psoriasis, renal impairment, thyroid disease, are pregnant, or breastfeeding.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
How should I store this medication?
Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at room temperature, 59 to 86° F (15 to 30° C). Protect from light. Keep the container tightly closed. Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.
What are the possible side effects of using this medication?
Edema, insomnia, dizziness, fatigue, nervousness, abnormal dreams, nausea, increased serum AST/ALT, myalgia, arthralgia
