What is this medication?
Antiarrhythmic Agent, Class Ia
Disopyramide is indicated for treatment of ventricular arrhythmias.

Considering the known proarrhythmic properties of disopyramide and the lack of evidence of improved survival for any antiarrhythmic drug in patients without life-threatening arrhythmias, the use of disopyramide as well as other antiarrhythmic agents should be reserved for patients with life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias.”
How does this medication work?
Disopyramide, Norpace/Rythmodan is a Class Ia antiarrhythmic which decreases myocardial excitability and conduction velocity; reduces disparity in refractory between normal and infarcted myocardium; possesses anticholinergic, peripheral vasoconstrictive, and negative inotropic effects.
How should I take this medication?
Oral (Immediate Release): 100mg to 200mg every 6 hours.
Oral (Controlled Release): 200mg to 400mg every 12 hours.
How to Take: Do not break or chew controlled-release capsules. Administer around-the-clock rather than 4 times a day to cause less of a variation in peak and trough serum levels. Should be taken on an empty stomach.
What should I watch for while using this medication?
Before starting Disopyramide, Norpace/Rythmodan make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take. Due to the proarrhythmic effect of Disopyramide, Norpace/Rythmodan, QT prolongation and subsequent torsade de pointes. Patients with preexisting cardiovascular disease, atrial fibrillation, urinary retention, electrolyte imbalance, glaucoma, hepatic and/or renal impairment, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome the incidence of proarrhythmic effects and mortality may be increased with Class Ia antiarrhythmic agents.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
How should I store this medication?
Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at room temperature, 59 to 86° F (15 to 30° C). Protect from light. Keep the container tightly closed. Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.
