How does this medication work?
Alpelisib, Piqray blocks the PI3Kα and Akt-signalling pathway, while overcoming endocrine treatment resistance in HR-positive advanced breast cancer patients. PI3K inhibition has shown to induce ER transcription increase in breast cancer cells.
How should I take this medication?
Oral: 300mg daily.
How to Take: Take with food at the same time each day. Swallow the tablets whole; do not crush, split or chew.
What should I watch for while using this medication?
Before starting Alpelisib, Piqray make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take. Alpelisib, Piqray have been shown to cause dermatologic toxicity (i.e. Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and erythema multiforme), gastrointestinal toxicity, hyperglycemia and pulmonary toxicity (i.e. interstitial lung disease).
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
How should I store this medication?
Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at room temperature, 59 to 86° F (15 to 30° C). Protect from light. Keep the container tightly closed. Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.
What are the possible side effects of using this medication?
Peripheral edema, fatigue, headache, skin rash, alopecia, pruritis, xeroderma, hyperglycemia, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, dry mucous membranes, dyspepsia, Headache, renal function abnormality, nasopharyngitis, upper respiratory tract infection, lymphocytopenia, fever.
