What is this medication?
Triamcinolone (Nasal), Nasacort Allergy 24 hr(US)/Nasacort AQ(CDN)
Indicated for treatment of allergic rhinitis.
How does this medication work?
Triamcinolone, Nasacort Allergy 24 hr/Nasacort AQ is a topical corticosteroid that exhibits anti-inflammatory antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties by suppressing mediators of inflammation through induction of phospholipase A2 and arachidonic acid.
How should I take this medication?
Usual (Nasal): Shake well and inhale 2 sprays in each nostril once daily; once symptoms are controlled reduce the dose to 1 spray in each nostril once daily.
How to Take: Gently blow your nose and shake nasal spray well before use. Avoid spraying into the mouth or eyes. Prime the nasal spray before first use by shaking the contents well and releasing 5 sprays into the air. If the Triamcinolone nasal spray has not been used for more than 2 weeks, reprime the nasal spray with 1 spray. Consider the use of a nasal vasoconstrictor for 2 to 3 days before initiating therapy in patients with excessive nasal mucous secretion or nasal mucosa edema.
What should I watch for while using this medication?
Triamcinolone, Nasacort Allergy 24 hr/Nasacort AQ nasal spray can cause local irritation and effects such as nasal septal perforation, nasal ulcerations, epistaxis and localized Candida albicans infection of the nose and/or pharynx. Triamcinolone nasal spray, Nasacort Allergy 24 hr/Nasacort AQ should not be used long-term, and patients should be monitored frequently for any adverse nasal effects. Triamcinolone may cause hypercortisolism or suppression of the HPA axis, in younger children when used in high doses for prolonged periods of time. Prolonged use of triamcinolone can also result in fungal or bacterial superinfections.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
How should I store this medication?
Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at room temperature, 15 to 25° C. Protect from light, heat, and moisture. Keep the spray tightly closed when not in use. Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.
What are the possible side effects of using this medication?
Headache, pharyngitis, facial edema, voice disorder, skin rash, photosensitivity, burning of the nose, weight gain, dysmenorrhea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, oral candida, muscle and joint pain, infection and conjunctivitis.
