What is this medication?
Eszopiclone, Lunesta is indicated for management of insomnia.

How does this medication work?
Eszopiclone, Lunesta binds to the brain’s GABA receptors which are close to or allosterically coupled to benzodiazepine receptors which reduces excitability and induces sleep.
How should I take this medication?
Usual (Oral): Initially 1mg before bedtime; may be increased to 2mg or 3mg (maximum dose: 3mg daily). Eszopiclone, Lunesta should only be used after careful evaluation for the potential causes of insomnia. Withdrawal symptoms are rare and in general is transient and resolves within weeks or upon re-initiation of GABAergic medication.
How to Take: Take immediately prior to going to bed because of the rapid onset of Eszopiclone, Lunesta. Do not take with, or immediately following a high-fat meal because of the potential delay in onset.
You Need to Avoid: Do not take alcohol or any other sleeping medications, CYP3A4 inducers and inhibitors, CNS depressants, cannabis.
What should I watch for while using this medication?
Before starting Eszopiclone, Lunesta make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, and activities you perform. Eszopiclone, Lunesta use has been associated with abnormal thinking and behavior including aggression, agitation, hallucination and depersonalization. Eszopiclone, Lunesta can also cause daytime impairment and should be used with caution in patients that perform tasks that require mental alertness. Eszopiclone, Lunesta should be used with caution in patients with depression, history of drug abuse, hepatic impairment and COPD and/or sleep apnea.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
How should I store this medication?
Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at room temperature, 59 to 86° F (15 to 30° C). Protect from light. Keep the container tightly closed. Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.
What are the possible side effects of using this medication?
Headache, dysgeusia, drowsiness, dizziness, depression, confusion, abnormal dreams, migraine, hallucinations, skin rash, pruritis, xerostomia, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, dysmenorrhea, urinary tract infection and accidental injury.
