How does this medication work? 

Lisinopril is a competitive inhibitor of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibits ACE which lowers blood pressure through a chain of events resulting in relaxing blood vessels which can reduce your risk of heart attack or stroke.

Hydrochlorothiazide lowers blood pressure by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the distal tubules which causes increased loss of sodium, water, potassium, and hydrogen ions. It is also believed to lower peripheral vascular resistance.

How should I take this medication?

Usual (Oral): Lisinopril 10 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily up to a maximum of Lisinopril 80 mg /hydrochlorothiazide 50 mg daily.

How to Take: Follow instructions provided by physician/pharmacy label, take consistently at same times each day unless otherwise directed, store at room temperature.

You Need to Avoid:  Significant drug interactions exist, requiring dose/frequency adjustment or avoidance so avoid starting any new medications without consulting prescriber.

What should I watch for while using this medication? 

Before starting Lisinopril+Hydrochlorothiazide, Zestoretic make sure your physician is aware of any allergies (Sulfa) or medications you currently take, if you have aortic stenosis, past bariatric surgery, cardiovascular disease, collagen vascular disease, diabetes, hepatic impairment, hypercalcemia, hypercholesterolemia, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, parathyroid disease, renal artery stenosis, renal impairment, are pregnant, or breastfeeding. Lisinopril+Hydrochlorothiazide, Zestoretic use has been associated with rare but serious adverse events such as angioedema, cholestatic jaundice, cough, electrolyte disturbances, gout, hematologic effects, hypersensitivity reactions, hypotension, syncope, acute angle closure glaucoma, acute transient myopia, photosensitivity, renal function deterioration, and non-melanoma skin cancer.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible.  However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose.  Do not take double or extra doses.

How should I store this medication?

Keep out of the reach of children at all times.  Store at room temperature, 59 to 86° F (15 to 30° C).  Protect from light.  Keep the container tightly closed.  Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.

What are the possible side effects of using this medication?

Orthostatic effect, hypotension, dizziness, headache, fatigue, paresthesia, skin rash, hyperkalemia, diarrhea, dyspepsia, vomiting, impotence, muscle cramps, weakness, upper respiratory tract infection, cough
