What is this medication?
Ophthalmic Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug (NSAID)
Nepafenac/Nevanac/Ilevro is indicated for ocular pain and inflammation associated with cataract surgery (may be used for conditions not listed)
How does this medication work?
Nepafenac/Nevanac/Ilevro is a prodrug that is converted to amfenac which inhibits cyclooxygenase which decreases prostaglandin production (inflammatory mediators).
What should I watch for while using this medication?
Before starting Nepafenac/Nevanac/Ilevro make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, if you have sensitivity to NSAIDs, asthma, diabetes, ocular disease, bleeding disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, are pregnant, or breastfeeding.
How should I take this medication?
Instill one drop into affected eye(s) one or three times daily depending on the formulation used
How to Take: Follow instructions provided by physician/pharmacy label, use consistently at same times each day unless otherwise directed, store at room temperature. Remove contact lenses for application of medication. Apply light pressure to lacrimal sac (inside corner of eye near nose) for 60 seconds after application to prevent drainage of the drop from eye.
You Need to Avoid: Do not touch tip of applicator to any surfaces or to the eye itself to avoid contamination
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
How should I store this medication?
Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at room temperature, 2 to 25° C (36 to 77° F). Protect from light. Keep the container tightly closed. Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.
What are the possible side effects of using this medication?
Hypertension, foreign body sensation of eye, headache, nausea, vomiting, decreased visual acuity, increased intraocular pressure, sticky sensation of eye, eye discomfort, irritation, lacrimation (tearing), light sensitivity, swelling of the eye
