What is this medication?

Fluticasone (Nasal), Flonase/Avamys/Veramyst
Nasal Corticosteroid

Fluticasone (Nasal), Flonase/Avamys/Veramyst is indicated for allergic rhinitis, nasal polyps, non-allergic rhinitis (may be used for conditions not listed)

How does this medication work? 

Fluticasone (Nasal), Flonase/Avamys/Veramyst may reduce the formation, release, and activity of inflammatory mediators such as kinins, histamine and prostaglandins. Reduces cell migration to the affected area and reverses dilation and blood vessel permeability resulting in decreased access of cells to the site.

How should I take this medication? 

1-2 sprays in each nostril once or twice a day

How to Take: Follow instructions provided by physician/pharmacy label, use consistently at same times each day unless otherwise directed, store at room temperature and shake gently before use.  May need to prime the pump by using a few times until a fine mist appears.  Blow nose to clear nostrils then insert spout, aim away from septum, and lightly sniff as you spray.

You Need to Avoid: Avoid contact with eyes or mouth.

What should I watch for while using this medication? 

Before starting Fluticasone (Nasal), Flonase/Avamys/Veramyst make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently are taking, if you have severe liver disease, cataracts, glaucoma, an active infection, are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

How should I store this medication?

Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep from freezing.

Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.

What are the possible side effects of using this medication?

Headache, viral infection, local irritation, nosebleed, pharyngitis
