What is this medication?

How does this medication work? 

Enalapril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that prevents the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II which results in a reduction on aldosterone secretion and vasoconstriction.

Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that increases the excretion of sodium, water, potassium and hydrogen from the kidneys.

How should I take this medication? 

Usual (Oral): Initial dose 10mg/25mg once daily; may increase the dose after 2 to 3 weeks depending on the patient’s response.  Maximum daily dose is 20mg/50mg.

How to Take: Swallow whole, do not split, chew or crush the tablet.  Take without regard to food.

What should I watch for while using this medication? 

When starting Enalapril/Hydrochlorothiazide, Vaseretic make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take.
Enalapril/Hydrochlorothiazide, Vaseretic should be used with caution and monitored carefully in patients with aortic and/or renal artery stenosis, cardiovascular disease, collagen vascular disease, diabetes, renal and hepatic impairment, hypercalcemia, and parathyroid disease.
Enalapril/Hydrochlorothiazide, Vaseretic use has been associated with adverse effects such as angioedema, cough, cholestatic jaundice, electrolyte disturbances, gout and a deterioration in renal function.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

How should I store this medication?

Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at room temperature, 59 to 86° F (15 to 30° C). Protect from light. Keep the container tightly closed. Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.

What are the possible side effects of using this medication? 

Orthostatic hypotension, chest pain, palpitations, syncope, dizziness, fatigue, drowsiness, nervousness, paresthesia, pruritis, gout, nausea, muscle cramps and weakness, cough and dyspnea.
