What is this medication?

Darifenacin, Enablex
Anticholinergic, Miscellaneous

Indicated for treatment of overactive bladder

How does this medication work?

Darifenacin, Enablex is a selective muscarinic (ME) receptor antagonist that reduces bladder contractions which helps treat symptoms of bladder overactivity such as urinary incontinence, urgency and frequency.

How should I take this medication?

Oral:
Usual: Start taking 7.5mg once daily.  If response is not satisfactory after 2 weeks, increase the daily dose to 15mg once daily.

How to Take: Take once daily, with a full glass of water without regard to meals.  Do not crush or chew extended-release tablets.  Doing so can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects.

You Need to Avoid: Darifenacin, Enablex reduces sweating and subsequently increases your risk of heat stroke.  Avoid activities such as exercise in hot weather or using hot tubs that can increase your risk of heat stroke.

What should I watch for while using this medication?

Before starting Darifenacin, Enablex make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, if you experienced or at risk of bladder flow obstruction, gastrointestinal disease (i.e. constipation, ulcerative colitis), glaucoma, hepatic impairment and myasthenia gravis.  Darifenacin, Enablex has been associated with xerostomia and constipation.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
