What is this medication?
Officially indicated for the treatment of various corticosteroid responsive dermatoses such as plaque psoriasis and eczema.
How does this medication work?
May reduce the formation, release, and activity of inflammatory mediators such as kinins, histamine and prostaglandins. Reduces cell migration to the affected area and reverses the dilation and blood vessel permeability result in decreased access of cells to the site. It has anti-inflammatory, vasoconstrictive, and antipruritic properties. Clobetasol has a very high range potency.
How should I take this medication?
Apply to affected area(s) one to two times daily depending on condition and formulation. Generally due to high potency, it should only be used until symptoms are controlled then a weaker steroid is used for maintenance of remission.
How to Take: Follow instructions provided by physician/pharmacy label, apply consistently at same times each day unless otherwise directed, store at room temperature
You Need to Avoid: High potency forms should not be applied to groin, axillae, face or diaper area. Avoid application to broken or infected skin unless directed by physician. Avoid applying other topicals at the same time unless otherwise directed to avoid dilution of product.
What should I watch for while using this medication?
Before starting use of clobetasol make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose of medication, try to take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, take only that scheduled dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
How should I store this medication?
Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at room temperature, 59 to 86° F (15 to 30° C). Protect from light. Keep the container tightly closed. Properly dispose of any unused medication after the expiration date.
What are the possible side effects of using this medication?
Burning, stinging, and itching of application site (uncommon and generally mild reactions)
