What is this medication?
Betaxolol, Betoptic S
Indicated for treatment of glaucoma, and ocular hypertension.
How does this medication work?
Betaxolol, Betoptic S reduces intraocular pressure by blocking beta1 receptors in the eye which reduces the production of aqueous humor.
How should I take this medication?
Usual (Ophthalmic): Shake well and instill 1 drop in the affected eyes twice daily.
How to Take: Shake suspension well before using. Tilt head back and instill in eye. Keep eye open and do not blink for 30 seconds. Apply gentle pressure to lacrimal sac for 1 minute. Wipe away excess from skin. Do not touch applicator to eye and do not contaminate tip of applicator.
What should I watch for while using this medication?
Before using a Betaxolol, Betoptic S make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, pre-existing medical conditions and activities you perform. Betaxolol, Betoptic S should be used with caution in patients with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, bronchospastic disease, vascular insufficiency and thyroid disease.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose of this medicine, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use two doses at one time.
How should I store this medication?
Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store upright at 2° - 25°C (36° - 77°F). Keep bottle tightly closed when not in use.
What are the possible side effects of using this medication?
Blurred vision, corneal punctate keratitis, photophobia, tearing, itching, erythema, foreign body sensation, dryness of eyes, inflammation, discharge, ocular pain, decreased visual acuity, crusty lashes
