How does this medication work?

Brimonidine, Alphagan P/Alphagan reduces intraocular pressure by selectively binding to alpha-2 adrenergic agonist; causing a reduction of aqueous humor formation and increased uveoscleral outflow.

How should I take this medication?

Usual (Ophthalmic): Instill 1 drop into the affected eye 2 to 3 times daily.

How to Take: Remove contact lenses prior to administration; wait 15 minutes before reinserting if using products containing benzalkonium chloride. Separate administration of other ophthalmic agents by at least 5 minutes. Do not touch the tip of the container to any surface, the eyelids, or the surrounding area.

What should I watch for while using this medication?

Before using Brimonidine, Alphagan P/Alphagan make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, pre-existing medical conditions and activities you perform. Brimonidine, Alphagan P/Alphagan like other ophthalmic solutions can inadvertently become contaminated and cause bacterial conjunctivitis.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of this medicine, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use two doses at one time.

How should I store this medication?

Keep out of the reach of children at all times. Store at cool room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.

What are the possible side effects of using this medication?

Ophthalmic: Allergic conjunctivitis, conjunctival hyperemia, eye pruritus, burning sensation of eyes, follicular conjunctivitis, visual disturbance, blepharitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, blurred vision, cataract, conjunctival edema, conjunctival hemorrhage, conjunctivitis, decreased visual acuity, dry eye syndrome, epiphora, eye discharge, eye irritation, eyelid disease, eyelid edema, eye pain, keratitis, photophobia, stinging of eyes, superficial punctate keratitis, visual field defect, vitreous detachment, vitreous opacity, watery eyes

Dermatologic: Erythema of eyelid, skin rash
